Swinging Europe
|
”Swinging
Europe” was the title of the theatre revue that was created during the first
Comenius project. The participants travelled around Europe “swinging” all the
way until they presented their revue to the sponsors in Brussels.
Preceding
this crowning finale were three years of hard work for all involved
participants. What started as nice vicinage between the German secondary
school Hamm in Hamburg, the Danish secondary school in Lemvig and the Dutch
Haagland-school in La Hague turned into European collaboration and cooperation
as intended by the Comenius idea. The Comenius students and teachers owe a
lot to this project.

IMEE:
Intercultural Music Education in Europe
|
The
partners in the project 'Intercultural Music Education in Europe' are music
institutions and organisations in LI, DE and GB. The project is coordinated
by the 'Europäische Musikschulunion - EMU', a non-profit organisation joined
by 21 countries in Europe. The project aims to offer intensive measures of
continuing education to music teachers all over Europe at different types and
levels of schools in order to enable them to teach and practise intercultural
teaching and making of music. Through the knowledge gained in courses
organised by the project the participants can act as multipliers in their own
countries. 4 sessions are planned within 2 or 3 years.
In
the project the principle of intercultural music learning is based on mutual
recognition and appreciation of diversity. Music teachers are the target
group for the in-service training sessions, and migrant children are expected
to benefit from the intercultural teaching of music.
The contents of the in-service training are based on the experiences of a 3
year pilot project in Neukölln, Berlin and several events where views were
exchanged.
The courses will include lectures on the cultures of emigration as well as an
introduction to different aspects of music in its countries of origin. The
lecturers come from various European countries, Africa, Turkey and Asia.
Concepts for European teaching materials for intercultural music education
will also be developed through these courses.

MEMO: Developing
multilingual modules for 'content' subjects – a component for European
teacher training
|
The
project (MEMO) involves teacher training institutions in DE, FR, IT, AT (x2)
and the Goethe-Institut, London. It aims to develop a model and materials for
the teaching of 'content' subjects in learners' foreign languages (DE, FR,
FR, IT, ES).
The
target groups are the teachers themselves, and pupils at primary and lower
secondary school levels.
The
'content' subjects to be targeted by the project include: history, geography,
social sciences, biology, mathematics, music, art and sport.
Non-subject-specific
modules will also be developed for use across the curriculum. Four meetings
per annum, each lasting several days, are envisaged in order to coordinate
tasks and address key didactic issues. The work of sub-teams on their home
ground is considered very important. Development and evaluation will be
conducted through seminars, workshops, trial lessons, sitting in on classes.
Evaluation will be ongoing, involving discussions, interviews,
video-recordings and teaching units. There will be close cooperation and
regular exchanges of materials amongst the partners. Communication will also
take placevia internet, phone and video-conferencing. Materials are to be
produced in print (hand-outs), on video and for the internet.

MusK&L: new media in music, art, and
literature
|
This
project works on concepts and material for (continuing) training for teachers
that specifically aim at “aesthetic education”. The creation of a module for
COMENIUS 2.2 is planned. The project discloses the incidences in which new
media can be a good addition and support for the work in these subjects. It
also identifies the moments where the use of electronic media can hinder the
process of production, judgement and taste development in the artistic
subjects literature, music and art.
It
will be increasingly important for the teachers’ (continuing) training to
inform the teachers and enable them to constructively deploy ”new media” for
their teaching. At the same time, teachers need to be given the possibility
to get to know work in transnational projects in their (continuing) training.
All
partners for this project worked in the training or continuing training for
teachers and all will be working closely with schools affiliated with a
COMENIUS school partnership project. Under the title “European Dance of
Life”, partners from 10 different European countries will realise a project
that includes the subjects music, art and literature with regard to new
media.
The
target group of the project are teachers who teach music, art and literature.
The project will produce material to be used in teacher education as well as
in in-service education of teachers to give the teachers new skills in using
new media in teaching and as a didactic tool. The materials produced will be
in form of CDs and printed materials. They will be used as material for a
Comenius-teacher.

Sharing and making music and dances
|
Music
is communication, expression, and education; through music it is possible to
comprehend a civilization that lives or lived in a particular geographical
area. The environment influences the musical production of different peoples.
So, we want to promote the expression of ideas, feelings and values and the
knowledge and respect of the different languages and cultures by means of
music and dance forms. We want to work on different forms of perception, expression
and experimentation of music and dance and their manifestation in the
participating countries. We will learn about music and songs that reflect the
traditions and culture (including modern culture) from various parts of Europe and record and exchange what we experience: we will also create new songs and
dances. Music has always transgressed language barriers!
