ROM-FIS: Understanding Cultural Diversity through Romany: Traveller Identity

The objectives of the two-year project within the education of Romany and Travellers children is to promote the awareness of cultural identity in these children and the understanding of cultural diversity in all children. This is done by

1) planning in-service training modules for teachers and Romany/Traveller contact persons in mixed group training in each partner country,

2) by developing teaching material for raising international awareness to be used by teachers, including items for history, geography, religion, social studies, music and handicrafts and

3) by testing and evaluating the training and the produced materials. All the work is done in collaboration with minority contact persons. The main target groups of the project are both minority and majority pupils, teachers and minority contact persons. During the first funding year the project aims at producing the three separate in-service training plans including overheads and handouts, the manuscripts for the teaching materials to be put together and finalised in an international working seminar and implementing and evaluating the in-service training modules.

Colour Keys Flexible Ensemble: teaching material

Goal of the project "Colour Keys Flexible Ensemble: teaching material" is to develop a new teaching method as well as material for piano students from young through teenage children. The method and the material aim at group classes in particular. Thus, the teaching material can be employed in different learning and teaching situations. Among them are music schools, as well as the pedagogic and didactic education of piano teachers in conservatories and universities.

Piano teachers and professors, and university and school students are testing the teaching material.

Fairy Tales/end product: Musical

The third year of the project "Fairy Tales" ended in a play performed in the vehicular language (English) based on a fairy tale or a legend characteristic of "the place where I live". Each partner institution chose one during the second year of project and wrote a script both in their mother tongue and in English. The script was divided into three parts: introduction, narration and conclusion. The introduction and the conclusion are shared by each partner institution. The team tried to point out all that is shared by the countries involved in the project and all that makes them different. We have been active in making our students aware of the similarities and the differences during the three year project.

PArtIE: Poetry, Art, Identity for tomorrow Europeans

The PartIE project aims at increasing European awareness among students, teachers, and, if possible, the whole school community by discovering, analysing (studying and comparing), creating and exchanging pieces of art (music, painting, literature, dance and photography). In this way we learn about our own and others' personal and regional identities, and the differences and similarities among them. In the end we experience art as a medium to form and to express a European identity. The activities we carry out to achieve this general aim are an additional motivation for both teachers and pupils in their daily practice, and a stimulus to co-operate beyond borders of any kind, to improve our IT skills, to learn new languages or improve the ones we know, and to fight racism and xenophobia.
