For generations, Naples has been a place of immigration where different peoples from Mediterranean countries meet. This multicultural environment serves as the background for establishing an intercultural library. Equipped with multimedia-based, electronic and digital media, this library is offering its services to all school levels in Naples' centre. The project's languages are Italian, French and Spanish.

At the core of the documentation project are the indigenous culture and the immigrant cultures. The library is organised by subjects: anthropology, folk art, literature, linguistics, music, sociology, dietary traditions, etc. In a second phase of the project, the progressive development of this library allows for various interdisciplinary activities in cooperation with other partners through workshops, classes, exchanges between schools, as well as meeting with contemporary witnesses and users. The third phase envisages developing and creating didactic material for all participating countries.

(The integration of the children of migrants and nomads through non verbal-languages)

The project INTEGRA is introduced by the Ministry of Public Education and aims at exploring drama as a technique to facilitate communication between native and non-native pupils and to encourage integration in schools, facilitate education and avoid exclusion.
The project is split in two stages:

1) the pupils will be introduced to drama-based modes of expression and their communication potential, e.g. through traditional dances and stories and

2) a play will be developed, set up and played.
The origin of the project lies in the basic pedagogical assumption that linguistic difficulties, and more particularly, the limited knowledge of the host country's language, slow down the integration of non-native children into the educational system and into society and bring about all kinds of educational problems and school failure. It was therefore felt that the development of non-verbal languages (body language, music, mime etc.) not only helps the integration and the feeling of belonging, but also forms a privileged channel of communication to enrich the linguistic knowledge of foreign children and all pupils in a school and enhances their educational development.
The project foresees the gradual transfer from mimic communication to the production of verbal texts which can be staged. The Portuguese partner will work on collecting traditional stories from all ethnic groups present in the project.
The project will be evaluated through the final presentations of the plays, the dances and the music, executed by the pupils themselves, and the decorative material used for the staging of the shows. Groups of 40-80 pupils of various classes will be involved in the project, which will be integrated in the school curriculum.

Mozart and the music in Europe

The comprehensive school Luisa Levi is situated in Mantova. It is one of the Italian cities in which Mozart played as a child. The school proposed to divulge musical culture at school by studying the music of the Austrian composer and the music, the culture and society of 18th century and contemporary Europe. Music is a universal language, which allows us to overcome language barriers and is thus a wonderful tool of communication amongst people of different cultures. Through the study and knowledge of music we hope to give value to the cultural heritage of the single European states and also to strengthen the spirit of a European citizenship. Music is a strong tool for the development of sensitive, free, open personalities going beyond national boundaries, and it allows all students to feel united maintaining their diverse characteristics and to feel themselves actors and protagonists in a Europe constantly promoting dialogue, collaboration and peace.
